Michigan Technological University

Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech, MTU, or simply “Tech”) is a public research university located in Houghton, Michigan. Founded in 1885 as the Michigan Mining School, the institution was established to train engineers and technical professionals for Michigan's rapidly growing copper mining industry. Over time, it evolved into one of the leading technological universities in the United States and is widely recognized for its strengths in engineering, computing, environmental science, geology, forestry, business, and applied research. Michigan Technological University was established by the State of Michigan in 1885 as the Michigan Mining School.
