Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac
Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac (March 5, 1658 – October 15, 1730) was a French explorer, soldier, colonial administrator, and entrepreneur best known as the founder of Detroit in 1701. A prominent figure in the history of New France, Cadillac played a major role in the exploration, settlement, and administration of the Great Lakes region during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.
