Michigan State University

Michigan State University (MSU) is a public research university located in East Lansing, Michigan. Founded in 1855, it was the first institution in the United States created under the principles that later became the land-grant university system. Today, Michigan State University is one of the nation's largest public universities and is recognized for its contributions to agriculture, engineering, veterinary medicine, education, business, scientific research, and public service. The university serves students from all fifty states and more than one hundred countries. ^{1) 2)}

Michigan State University was established on February 12, 1855, as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan. The institution was created to provide practical education in agriculture and scientific farming at a time when Michigan's economy was heavily dependent upon agriculture and natural resources. ³⁾
