Austin Blair, Civil War Governor of Michigan

Austin Blair (February 8, 1818 – August 6, 1894) was an American lawyer, politician, and statesman who served as the 13th Governor of Michigan from 1861 to 1865 during the American Civil War. Blair is widely regarded as one of Michigan's most influential governors and is often remembered as Michigan's “Civil War Governor” for his leadership during the conflict.

Under Blair's administration, Michigan became one of the Union's strongest supporters, contributing tens of thousands of soldiers to the war effort. His leadership helped shape Michigan's role in preserving the Union and ending slavery in the United States. 1)
