Louis Jolliet

Louis Jolliet (September 21, 1645 – May 1700) was a French-Canadian explorer, cartographer, trader, and hydrographer best known for his exploration of the Mississippi River alongside Jesuit missionary Father Jacques Marquette in 1673. Jolliet played a significant role in expanding European knowledge of the interior of North America and contributed to the mapping and exploration of the Great Lakes region, including areas that would later become part of Michigan. ¹⁾
